Broccoli Sprouts – Powerful anti-cancer food

My brother asked me the other day why I bothered to grow sprouts.  He thinks it’s just too much bother to rinse them three times a day and more importantly because they don’t really have a big impact in terms of flavour..

For me, spending a couple minutes a day to rinse sprouts is not a big deal, especially when you know what amazing little anti-cancer powerhouses they are.

So how great are they?

The Johns Hopkins Scientists found the Sulforaphane Gluosanolate (anti-cancer compounds)  levels in three to four day old broccoli sprouts are up to 50 times the amount of mature broccoli heads.

Clinical trials have shown that eating just two and a half ounces daily will increase the body’s protective enzymes.  These little sprouts trigger an increase in antioxidant enzymes that help to counter cell damage and inflammation brought on by pollution and environmental toxins.

When I made him eat them during his visit he was perplexed about what you could use them in. Easy answer is to add them  to salads, sandwiches, smoothies, or simply eat a handful on their own.  They have a mild peppery taste.
