Raw Butternut Squash SaladThis is a really refreshing salad. The taste is very delicate and I think would be a great starter for a summer meal. My intentions were to use parsnips, but I changed my mind as I think it would have overpowered the other flavours. |

Heather Broccoli Sprouts – Powerful anti-cancer food
March 30th, 2010
Heather My brother asked me the other day why I bothered to grow sprouts. He thinks it’s just too much bother to rinse them three times a day and more importantly because they don’t really have a big impact in terms of flavour..
For me, spending a couple minutes a day to rinse sprouts is not a big deal, especially when you know what amazing little anti-cancer powerhouses they are.
So how great are they?
The Johns Hopkins Scientists found the Sulforaphane Gluosanolate (anti-cancer compounds) levels in three to four day old broccoli sprouts are up to 50 times the amount of mature broccoli heads.
Clinical trials have shown that eating just two and a half ounces daily will increase the body’s protective enzymes. These little sprouts trigger an increase in antioxidant enzymes that help to counter cell damage and inflammation brought on by pollution and environmental toxins.
When I made him eat them during his visit he was perplexed about what you could use them in. Easy answer is to add them to salads, sandwiches, smoothies, or simply eat a handful on their own. They have a mild peppery taste.
2 Magic Words that will melt off the pounds.
March 29th, 2010
Robert Did you know that there are 2 “magic” words that if followed will melt off pounds, lower cholesterol, help fight certain cancers, leave you feeling great and according to recent scientific studies actually increase your lifespan??
You don’t believe me do you?
And yet it is true. These 2 words have been expanded on ad-infinitum by a diet industry apparently intent on misinforming us to such a point our heads and bloated bellies spin in confusion. Information overload and conflicting statements are the manner of the day. Low carb, high carb, grapefruits, metabolism, basal metabolic rate, genetics, blood glucose, glycemic index, Kilojoules, caloric deficits, energy expenditures. It is as if we must be rocket scientists in order to grasp even the most rudimentary information pertaining to weight loss.
Study after study, after web page. Some gems, mostly drivel……but diet and weight fads and fallacies regurgitate ceaselessly from a greed driven machine. They know the 2 magic words, and they know that there is no money in it. So they won’t tell you.
But I will.
Those 2 words, if you will grant them an ear, will reduce the endless daily diet drivel to the mere static that it is. These 2 words will make a 400 page diet book look like a comic. Make a scientific study on weight loss look like a carnival show.
But are you ready for the truth?? For the absolute simplicity and magic of these words?? Or will you deny them and contest them proclaiming vehemently “It can’t be that easy”!!!
The choice is yours……to leave in anger, to chuckle and move on, or to embrace the magic of absolute simplicity and take responsibility for your life with these 2 Zen like words of power……
The words, my dear friend. “Eat less”
Anything added or taken away is simply unnecessary. Those 2 words have been shamelessly expanded to a billion dollar global industry which has done nothing but make us the fattest generation in the history of the world. Well done.
Eat less. Lose weight. Simple.
Oh but you want to be HEALTHY as well???? That my friend is a different story. Much more complicated.
….Actually still 2 words
Eat well.
Research online, take time to see which foods are best for your body, and learn to cook healthy meals with healthy and organic ingredients. Eat like a peasant and feel like a king!
